What is Tinkle?
Tinkle is an app where users can locate, rate, and submit feedback for public restrooms anywhere in the world!
Search through thousands of public toilets and instantly get directions on how to find them. Users can also add to our list of bathrooms, helping other users out and making the app a better experience overall. Don’t forget to rate your tinkle!
The Problem
1. Fast - need something that instantly pulls up the top “bathrooms
near You” feature instead of going through multiple pages to find a good bathroom
2. Add review/own bathrooms - not just see ratings of the locations themselves (if a store/gas station were to write their own review) but also others that have used them. Also add their own feedback to help future poopers. Also add toilets that may not be listed.
3. Missing facilities — doesn’t accurately portray locations and correct information about the toilets listed (see similar app low reviews for reference)
***The biggest problem I found when reviewing other toilet apps is that toilets will ONLY come up if they have been uploaded by other users. There is no data being pulled from locations so the bathrooms are largely inaccurate/missing critical information***
Solution - Features to be Included
- Pull data from pre-existing maps and info
- Able to add information/reviews/pictures
- Verify the addresses: *similar apps mentioned that people mess around with the app and put private homes on the map instead of actual public bathroom locations.
- Way to ensure the location is a legitimate bathroom site
- Simple navigation: quick and instant results

Persona Development
Tinkle is designed for users of all ages and backgrounds… everybody tinkles! There’s several different groups that we feel would benefit from finding their “Golden Throne” and our job is to create an easily accessible app for parents of young children, those who need special accommodations such as wheelchair access, or just anyone looking for the perfect place to lay down the law.
Mary Lewis

Mary is a young mother of three who loves to get outside and take her little ones on fun adventures. Having 3 littles can get a bit tricky when it comes to finding restrooms. Her youngest two are still in diapers (but Carter is slowly learning to use the big boy potty) and when he need to go, he needs to GO.
She would love a way to find close bathrooms quickly when out and about at the local park, on vacations, or even find out the condition of the toilets at Walmart instead of scrambling at the last minute to keep a little pair of pants dry.
Steve and Martha Jones

Although the couple is getting up in years, they still like to get out when they can and spend time with their grandchildren. Unfortunately, their kids live in Idaho and are often too busy to drive the three hours to come visit (meaning it’s up to them to road trip on over and see the grand babies). They love the drive but when you get old, your bladder isn’t as strong as it used to be and they find themselves needing to stop more frequently than they used to.
There’s plenty of gas stations along the way but they have found themselves in some pretty grubby toilet stalls. Martha especially would love to have a way to find out which gas stations are the cleanest and worth taking an exit for (if you know what I mean).
Logo Design and Color Palette
I went through several different design options to create a basic logo and slogan based on the client needs. They wanted a "regal" and royal color scheme as well as some way to incorporate the "Golden Throne" into either an icon or the title/slogan itself.
Client Design Draft
Below is the layout that I was provided from my client that they are expecting with the app. My job is to redesign what they have and make it a more successful experience for any user and refine the stylization such as the colors, creating a new logo, and general layout.

The other design elements that the client is expecting include social media ads, icon designs, digital ads (Youtube and Waze), as well as physical aspects such as fliers and mail hand outs.
As mentioned at the beginning -- this project is still a work in progress and the final result has a deadline in April. The next steps that I will be working on is drafting out wireframes (paper and digital), creating more graphic design elements and building on the logo, and developing a working prototype that will undergo user testing and revisions.
